About Our Project

Climate change is undoubtedly a reality that affects us as a society nowadays. Considering the fact that in order to achieve a global change in this matter, we have to start locally and above all start taking small steps to gradually produce a change of mentality that will result in a greater environmental awareness in people’s behavior. Regarding this premise and taking into account the relevance of the “Fridays for future” demonstrations for our students, we have decided, as an educational community, to take these ideas and put them into practice, and thus take small steps from our school towards a global movement. Therefore, we want to create and implement a climate protection plan adapted to each school and each reality. Specifically, this means that five countries (Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Turkey) will participate in the exchanges, in each of them, the host school will propose a measure that can be applied in the school, for example, how to handle with waste separation or how to reduce water consumption or how to foster regional product consumption and so on. During the time between exchanges all schools will test and discuss whether this measure could be applicable to their school and reality. So at the end of the whole project there will be five measures available, of which at least two must be applied in the schools. If possible, the second measure should be taken out of the five available ones. The two measures and their explanation will be brought out in a brochure to be available for the whole school community. In total, about 40 people are going to participate among students and teachers. The exchanges will be extended over a period of 24 months. Communication will be carried out through digital media, e-Twinning and e-mails, that will allow the formation of international teams to do the following activities: exchange on success and problems about the concrete measure chosen by the schools. The language used as a means of communication will be English which will lead to improving the language competence among the participants and to bridging the gap between cultures by using it as a means of communication.

HISTORY OF KLAIPEDA WATER – SUPPLY SYSTEM

EN

The company's history began in 1902 when a Lithuanian newspaper “Lietuviška Ceitunga" published an article entitled “City Festival“. The article spread the news that the inauguration of water supply was coming.

At that time, a place in Liepų Street was selected for the water supply company. It was located near the gas plant and built in the middle of nineteenth century. In this way, the city zone of public utilities continued to expand. The water supply complex consisted of a water-tower, pumping, aeration and filter buildings, and a transformer station. In particular, the unique water-tower became a highlight of the northern part of the city.

In the 19th century, in the old town of Klaipėda, water from wells was quite bad. The Head doctor of the city F. J. Morgen wrote in his book, "Local people take water from public wells, but there are only a few, which are properly installed. The water from the river is unsuitable for human consumption, because the winds mix Danė’s water with sea water." With help from state funds in 1876-1877 a borehole was drilled near Klaipėda, in Purmalių village. Previous results from a borehole water analysis gave hope that good water could be found in Klaipėda. After long negotiations with the authorities, in 1898 what is now Liepų Street in Klaipėda, became the location of a new water borehole. However, it was not a water supply company yet, that required different constructions and mechanisms. Eventually, Klaipėda water tower and water distribution system were both laid down in 1901, and a year later, on August 2nd, Klaipėdos Vanduo was solemnly inaugurated.

International meeting in Berlin

After almost 2 years, the activities of international projects have been renewed. And we didn’t miss this chance! At the end of September 2021, a group of our students (Maksim Kornilov IIIb, Aleksandr Ščiur IIIb, Sofia Jugaj IId, Alexandra Litvinenko Ia, Amelija Permenova IId) together with teachers (Diana Mineikiene, Natalia Domnenko) and principal Irina Fiodorova went to Berlin (Germany).

Project participants (Erasmus Plus project "Save Our Sphere" (S.O.S) from Germany, Italy, Poland, Turkey and Lithuania gathered in the German capital to raise awareness of global environmental issues. Working according to the plan of the project, the students tried to immerse themselves in the world situation.

It is gratifying that it was time not only to work, but also to get to know the city, to climb the observation deck of the Berlin TV Tower (368 m) (207 m), to visit the modern Futurium museum, where you can think about how we will live in the future, and so on, communicate with partners and their families.

2022 In April, if the epidemiological situation is favorable (we all really hope so!), all partners will gather with us in Klaipeda.

Bari, Italy

The 2022-2023 school year began with a trip to Italy (Bari). From October 8 to October 14, we and our partners worked on a project in this city. This city is comfortably located on the heel of an Italian “boot”. Medieval castles, walls, an old fort, narrow winding streets, sandy beaches of the Adriatic Sea opened up to our eyes. In this city there are the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker - one of the most revered saints among both Orthodox and Catholics. This gives the city a special charm. We were infinitely glad to meet with partners after a long break. We worked on the project, enjoyed the sights and planned our next meetings.

Mersin, Turkey

At the end of November 2022, the next meeting on the project took place in Mersin in Turkey, located on the Mediterranean coast, but not a tourism center. It is a city with a very ancient history, dating back to the ninth millennium BC. Mersin has been part of many civilizations throughout its very long history: Assyrians, Persians, Greeks, Romans and Byzantines. Today Mersin is a large city stretching along the coast, with skyscrapers, huge hotels, and large shops. In a very warm atmosphere, we got to know the city and held many events related to the theme of our project. For example: workshop on recycling and presentation of the materials made at the workshop, visit to Arbella (Pasta, grains and pulse factory, Cultural and Historical visit to Viranşehir, Silifke and so on.

Klaipeda / Lithuania

At the end of April 2023, a meeting on the project took place in Klaipeda. 5 working days of the meeting flew by. The families of students of the Aitvaro gymnasium, who hosted one, two or even three guests, deserve our thanks and highest respect. We paid all our attention to the theme of the project in order to once again emphasize the importance of caring for our nature. Working in mixed groups, improving their knowledge of the English language, the students drew advertising posters calling for the protection of nature, participated in real debates, sorted garbage in a relay race, and even wrote a letter to planet Earth, the words of which were sometimes very touching. We showed the guests our city, neighboring Palanga and enjoyed every minute of the meeting.

Wroclaw, Poland

The first week of June 2023, the project participants spent in the Polish city of Wroclaw, where partners from Germany, Turkey and Italy also arrived. This was the final meeting on the project. And only this thought overshadowed our stay in a cozy city with hundreds of small bronze statues of dwarfs, which have already become an integral part of this ancient city.

The last meeting on the project is always a very responsible meeting. We summed up the project, evaluated it and participated in the events scheduled for this meeting. For example, we visited Hydropolis - Water knowledge centre - in order to improve knowledge about the possibilities of reducing water consumption and the gene bank in Kostrzyca. Kostrzyca Forest Gene Bank is conducting an innovative project concerning the identification and storage of DNA of the most precious plants within the Białowieża Forest area. These were very interesting visits.

Meeting in Klaipeda

In October 2021, a meeting of all partners took place in Klaipeda as part of the international project “Myths and Legends  in Europe”. Our partners in this project are schools from Hungary, Italy, Greece and Germany. This meeting was very important because it was the first and a very long awaited meeting. The fertile theme of the project encourages creativity because for each meeting the partners prepare a stage performance of one of their country's legends. Everyone has full freedom of choice. One can draw, sing, dance to represent the idea of a legend or a myth. In Klaipeda we worked on the theme of the project, invented new legends and introduced guests to our beautiful city and its surroundings. Visiting the Hill of Witches in Juodkrante cannot be called a pleasure trip, but this mystical place fits our project perfectly. We also showed the guests Nida and Palanga. We are glad that the mayor of our city, Vytautas Grubliauskas, met with the project participants and showed respect for the idea of international cooperation between young people. The next meeting will be in Greece very soon. We're excited!

October 2021

Meeting in Greece

In mid-November 2021 we returned from a trip to the island of Crete (Greece), where the second meeting on the Project “Myths and Legends in Europe” had already taken place. In this country, on this island, everything breathes myth and legend. Artemij Morozov IVd, Bogdan Bronevskij IIId, Kiril Veseljev IIId, Ksenija Koniševa IVd, Kristina Koniševa Ivd, Darija Jegorova IVb, Jade Harumi Sabin Tipiani IIa, Anastasija Galčenkova IIa together with the teachers (Diana Mineikienė, Natalija Domnenko) and the principal (Irina Fiodorova) took part in this trip.

We have managed to see the Palace of Knossos (1700 BC) sung about in the legends, the 3000-year-old olive tree, which is widely recognized by the international scientific community. This olive tree still bears fruit today and Plato, Aristotle or Hippocrates could probably be sitting under this tree. It was a journey through time.

And we all danced Sirtaki together. The dance, which has become the visiting card of Greece, has the power of uniting people. This is not difficult to understand when you watch the dancing project participants!

We also enjoyed participating in all activities following the program of the project meeting.

Meeting in Italy 2022

International cooperation

In February 2022 the team of "Aitvaro" Gymnasium (principal Irina Fiodorova, geography teacher Aistė Raubienė and students of the 1st-4th grades: Roza Ariničeva, Ana Borcova, Katsiaryna Rak, Kaj Borisov, Dainius Gelžinis, Sofija Jugaj, Aurelija Kaupaitė, Maksim Bukatyj) participated in the international meeting of partner institutions (Germany, Italy, Hungary and Lithuania) in Italy (Carpi) as a part of Erasmus+ project "Legends and myths in Europe"

On the first day, the participants visited the Parmesan (cheese) factory. It is a hard granulated cow's milk cheese from Italy. According to the national law, only cheeses produced in these regions can be called Parmigiano-Reggiano. Afterwards, the participants prepared and presented one of the legends of the country they came from. Our team of students presented one of the most popular legends about the founding of Vilnius written in the 16th century. In the legend of the founding of the city of Vilnius, the wolf is sometimes associated with the Capitoline wolf, which fed the founders of Rome, Remus and Romulus, one of the Gediminas' ancestors is called the Wolf in the annals.

On the same day, there was a meeting with the mayor of Carpi, who wished everyone a busy and creative week.

On Tuesday, a trip to Verona, which commemorates 300 years before Christ, was planned. This is the city that Shakespeare fell in love with, because the action of the tragedy "Romeo and Juliet" takes place in Verona.

On Wednesday, the participants went on an excursion to Bologna, where the oldest university in Europe is located, it is one of the richest cities in Italy. In the main or Archiginnasio palace, which currently houses the old city library, noble students from Italy and other countries immortalized themselves by leaving their family coat of arms here on the wall. Yes, you can also find the coats of arms of LDK nobles here! The jewel of the main university building is the authentic Anatomy Theatre. The entire hall is decorated with wood sculptures depicting allegorical creatures, ancient gods, famous doctors of ancient times such as Hippocrates and others. In 2021 the architectural porticos of Bologna have been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

On Thursday, the participants were introduced to the celebrities of the city of Carpi, and then, inspired by the experience, they created new legends and presented them. And Tortellini was also made - pasta originating from the Emilia region of Italy. Traditionally, they are stuffed with a mixture of meat, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, egg and nutmeg. They are usually sold fresh or homemade in their area of origin. And then - a farewell evening!

And the journey home! We thank all participants for their creativity, ability to communicate and collaborate.

Meeting in Germany 2022

The meeting in Betzdorf.

The last meeting of the partner schools as part of the Erasmus+ project "Legends and myths in Europe" took place. Our team (teachers Natalija Domnenko and Aistė Raubienė, students of the 2nd-4th grades Aleksandr Tokorev, Yekaterina Bogdanova, Karina Zinčenko, Amelija Permenova, Dainius Gelžinis, Sofija Jugaj, Aurelija Kaupaitė, Aleksandra Litvinenko) visited Betzdorf, (Germany / Rhineland- Palatinate. ), where the partners gathered not only from Lithuania, but also from Greece, Italy and Hungary.

The start of this project was very difficult due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but during the school year 2021-2022 we managed the seemingly impossible: 4 partnership meetings were organized, each country presented 4 legends in its own way (dance, composition, performance, video etc.), the book of legends (bilingual German-English) was published, acquaintance with partner countries was made. In such projects it is particularly important to communicate and cooperate with peers and colleagues.

Visiting German cities like Cologne, Bonn and Koblenz was unforgettable for the participants.

We think that we have managed to prepare for this meeting a very interesting interpretation of the legend about the cheese that once saved our city's castle called Memelburg from the Swedes. This great video was remembered by many viewers. The participants were all students who traveled to Germany. Lithuanian teacher Diana Mineikienė and Ekaterina Bogdanova (IIa) coordinated the process of creating the video. Aleksandr Tokorev (IVc) masterfully transformed all the material into a short film that we dedicated to the 770th anniversary of Klaipėda. He did it so well and tastefully as no one was indifferent after watching this masterpiece. ☺

Even that the project is almost over, the warm memories will remain in our hearts for a long time. We are sure of it.

Drawing main heroes for our photonovella

Together with the new school year, the   international project is keeping on its activities.

From 16th to 22th September, 2018 project participants: Director I.F. Fedorova, German language teacher N. I. Domnenko and Lithuanian language and literature teacher Diana Mineikene with her students (Veronica Belyayeva, Mikhail Kulikov, Denis Lisovsky, Nikita Maltsov, Alice Victorova) visited Vroclaw (Poland), where the international meeting on the ERASMUS PLUS project "International encounter to raise pollution and global warning awareness around the Baltic Sea" was held in accordance with the plan.

The week was hot for the project participants in every sense of the word. The protracted summer was filled with warm days, and the organizers of the meeting offered a wide range of cognitive events: a visit to the smoothie site on the Sky Tower, which is at an altitude of almost 200 meters; Familiarity with the zoo, founded as early as the 19th century; A walk through the Japanese garden; Visit to "Hydrobolis" - a new museum in Wroclaw which is called the best mega-attraction of Europe where the variety of multimedia technologies, artistic installations, replicas and identical reproduced models serve a single purpose: showing water in different fascinating forms.

Read more: http://experttur.com/europe/poland/201601/megaatrakcion-hydropolis.html (water knowledge center,).

We also went up to the Table Mountains in the south-west of Poland, took part in a walk on the ship on the river Odré, conducted a study of water samples from the water bodies of the city and the water pipeline. An indelible impression was left by a fascinating tour of the old city where dwarves "settled" in a variety of places,.

Project participants are working on creating a photonovella (they took many photos to later use them in a photonovella).

On the first day of the meeting our students presented the first chapter of the photonovella. The project participants were also presented the illustrated and animated versions of the first chapter. The main participants of the meeting will continue the work started in Klaipeda on the creation of a photo-meeting about the tireless representatives of good and evil (Tidy and Shady) and their struggle to protect the ecology of the countries of the Baltic Sea region.

All planned activity was done. The week raced unnoticed. We are waiting for more meetings in Denmark and Estonia.

We thank all the project participants for their determination to change the world.

 Action "DAROM"

Gymnasium “Aitvaro” (Klaipeda) joined the action "DAROM" on the occasion of the „World Cleanup Day“. On September 20th, at 12 p.m. the participants took hands in a live chain. With their appearance, clothes, posters, balloons, they expressed concerns related to the environmental problems, preservation of our land, oceans, air, wildlife... The participants then demonstrated their flashmob.

Lithuania took the initiative to become the world leader in this action and in 2020 is intending to organize such a flashmob in more than 150 countries.

This means that this year the Lithuanian schoolchildren will try to do it for the first time, and next year students in tens of thousands of schools around the world will follow this action.

MEETING IN ESTONIA

From 9th to 14th September, 2019 there was a meeting on the project “Inter-nation encounter to raise pollution and global warming awareness around the Baltic Sea” in Tallinn (Estonia).

During this meeting the participants studied the ecological situation in the region of each partner, got acquainted with the wealth of nature in the Museum of Nature Tallinn and in mixed groups took part in an interactive game-quest on the territory of the park adjacent to the museum, which helped them to further immerse themselves in the environmental situation of Estonia as one of the Baltic regions.

The project participants visited Lahemaa National Park. It is the perfect place to observe nature.

Lahemaa is one of Europe's most important forest reserves, home to many large mammals. It is a habitat of elks, boars, brown bears, lynxes, foxes and other wild animals.

The visit to Lahemaa National Park, located on the northern coast of Estonia, left a great impression.

During one creative workshop the participants of the project composed fairy tails reflecting the problems of the Baltic Sea, and drew posters on the content of the composed fairy tails, and also, working with a computer, created infographics related to the topic of the project.

On the other day, the project participants visited Tallinn's treatment facilities and learned a lot of important information about how much it is necessary to work to prevent the Baltic Sea from polluting human waste.

Throughout the week the project participants also worked on stage presentation of the idea of a comic book which will become the final product of the project. On the last day of the meeting, the participants of the project presented the results of their work. At the end of this presentation there were very sincere words addressed to the viewer asking to preserve the Baltic Sea.

The meeting was warm and useful and remembered by the participants of the project.

Еducational program "For Animal Safety in Smiltinе"

October 16, 2019 became memorable for the participants of the project and pupils of the 1b class. On this day they took part in the educational program "For Animal Safety in Smiltinе" - four cured seals were released in the Baltic Sea.

This spring, the Lithuanian Maritime Museum sheltered 16 weakened and wounded seals that were in a very difficult condition. The animals weighed no more than 13 kg and were effectively doomed to death. The released seals have special devices on them to monitor their movements.

Baltic grey seals are a rare endangered species listed in the red books of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden and Russia. These seals already live in the Baltic Sea for 10 000 years.

The Visiting AB “Klaipėdos vanduo” Dumpiai waste water treatment facility

The project participants visited AB “Klaipėdos vanduo” Dumpiai waste water treatment facility. They learned a lot of facts about the wastewater treatment plant.

This facility plays an important role in ensuring environmental protection of water bodies.

Living on the Baltic Sea coast, we care about its purity and try to learn as much as possible about how to protect it from the harmful effects of human activity.

National Visitor center of Preserved areas of Lithuania

The final event for the project participants and other students of the gymnasium was a visit to the „National Visitor center of Preserved areas of Lithuania“ in the capital of our country Vilnius.

The purpose of the center is to interest visitors in the national and regional parks, protected species of plants and animals, features of the landscape, to encourage independent travel and to discover the natural wealth of our country.

The exposition is not only interesting in terms of content, but also surprising in terms of visual solutions. The visitor feels as if he is surrounded by nature: meadows, birds, grasshoppers around. You can imagine being on a meadow or in a forest.

Each guest can get acquainted with the system of protected areas. Not everyone knows that Lithuania has 5 national, 30 regional parks, 3 state natural and 2 cultural reserves, about 300 reserves, more than 500 state protected natural heritage sites.

Any visitor of the exhibition can become an active participant who can touch, listen and feel.

The knowledge of the nature of its homeland, its problems and ways of salvation is the responsibility of the young generation. And this is a great advantage of the international projects which give an opportunity to get acquainted with such an important topic and to learn a lot of new and useful things.

 Transnational Project Meeting

The final meeting on the project, which was attended only by teachers, took place in Berlin in early March 2020.

At this meeting, were summed up the results of the project, was started work on the preparation of the final report and were also discussed plans for the future. Startuoja naujas projektas!

2016-2017 m.m. mūsų gimnazija vėl bus tarptautinės bendruomenės dalis, nes startuoja naujas NORDPLUS JUNIOR projektas „NORDIC DREAMS“. Šis projektas romantišku pavadinimu sujungė tris šalis, gyvenančias prie Baltijos jūros: Lietuvą, Latviją ir Daniją. „Aitvaro“ gimnazija – koordinuojanti institucija, mūsų partneriai: Riga Secondary School 71  (Latvia, Riga), Bjergsnaes Efterskolе (Denmark, Viborg).

Projekto koordinatoriai mūsų gimnazijoje: Natalija Domnenko (002 kab.),
Diana Mineikienė (306 kab.)
